We created quite a stir with our Zombie Dust announcement.
Unfortunately due to road construction, it didn't get delivered when it was supposed to. Fortunately, it has been delivered and is in the Nice Ash cooler. Unfortunately, St. Patrick's Day is coming this weekend and we feel that since that particular holiday is filled with excess that it would be a shame to have drunken revelers consume this all too rare beer. Fortunately, it is St. Patrick's Day weekend and that's always a fun time. Unfortunately, we will have to wait until after St. Patrick's Day to tap the keg of Zombie Dust so it is appreciated by all who consume it. Fortunately, that will happen next week. Stay tuned!

If you've been to the Nice Ash lately you've likely noticed the Elect Shawn Reilly Mayor signs. Yes we are endorsing and supporting Shawn's bid for Mayor of Waukesha. I've known Shawn since grade school, he has been my attorney and friend for most of our adult lives.
Shawn is extremely qualified to be mayor. He has 22 years of experience as a municipal attorney. He knows what works and what doesn't in city government. He is fair, honest and has the integrity needed to hold public office. He has the skills and work ethic to provide the leadership that has been lacking over the past four years in the mayor's office. There is a debate at the County Museum at 7pm this evening. Its a great opportunity to compare and contrast the two candidates. Also Shawn is holding a fundraiser at the Eagle's Club in Waukesha at 709 N Grandview Blvd, 7pm to 10pm. Come meet Shawn and support him with a donation. Whatever you do go out an vote on April 1st. Waukesha needs a new mayor and Shawn is the perfect fit! That's my public service announcement for the week! Wow we had a great weekend at the Nice Ash. I met some new customers and existing customers I haven’t had a chance to talk with yet. I am continually amazed by how we keep finding the nicest people who come in and enjoy what we have to offer. We are a cigar bar and as such we know that a large segment of the population won’t come in because they don’t like or want to deal with the
smoke. That’s ok. In business, you can’t appeal to everyone. I like to think that our success is by design. We offer a comfortable place to come in relax and interact with a wide cross section of people. You can enjoy a fine cigar or hookah. You can choose from over 100 whiskeys and 16 great tap beers. You can enjoy live music four nights a week or play poker or Sheepshead. We have whiskey tastings and smokers. We have the best bartenders around. I am proud we have helped create an establishment people like and enjoy. But you know what? I was reminded this past weekend that what we have planned for the Nice Ash is just a small piece of the puzzle. Almost every day I am humbled that the key ingredient to our business is our customers. Our regular customers are our ambassadors to our business. They make newcomers welcome. They turn people into regular customers. They are what truly make the Nice Ash successful and a joy to come into work every day. So this blog today is in honor of our Nice Ash family. You are simply the best. Thank You! I was talking with our Drew Estate rep Ben the other night about the Kentucky Fire Cured (KFC) brand recently introduced by Jonathan Drew. We had just received our shipment in that day and I was pleased to be informed that we are one of just four locations you can buy KFC's in Wisconsin. This unique cigar contains some American tobaccos normally used for dry and moist snuff that have
been fired cured over hickory, maple and oak woods—an uncommon method for the premium sector. It is unlike anything you have tried before. He also said we have the most Nica Rusticas in the area. So get your Ash in here and get some cigars that are hard to find! There are very few beers that receive a 100 rating from Beer Advocate. Zombie Dust from Three Floyds Brewery from Munster, Indiana is one of them.
This American Pale Ale is truly a world class beer. It is very rare and we are fortunate to be one of the few Wisconsin bars to be allotted a barrel. We will post on Facebook and tweet when its tapped so when you hear get your Ash in here, your taste buds will thank you. Once tapped it will not last long! For most of the winter, my day job of being a real estate appraiser has been very quiet. I've just recently gotten busier, not uber busy, but busier. I've been active in a couple of new organizations in downtown Waukesha; Downtown Waukesha, LLC and the Downtown Property Alliance which has consumed more of my time. I've also been busy helping with the Elect Shawn Reilly campaign as Waukesha desperately needs a new mayor. (Waukesha residents vote Shawn Reilly for mayor on April 1st) After a long hiatus the Cigar Store Alliance of Wisconsin has been heating up as there is a Bill in the legislature which would greatly increase taxes. There are always tasks that need tending to at the Ash.
So why am I whining to you fine folks? Well I'm not really, I'm going to share some clarity. I've always had things fill my schedule and at times it can be overwhelming. I also know that I'm not alone in that regard, everyone is busy. That said, while things need to get done, none of it is worth truly stressing about. I found myself this morning worrying about how I'll get everything done and thinking I'm going to have to pull back on this or that. Well you know what? It will all get done and part of making sure it gets done is taking time to decompress. For me, that entails a fine craft beer or whiskey and a premium stick. I was going to skip out on Wednesday night poker tonight so I didn't fall further behind but instead; I'm going to play some poker, enjoy an adult beverage and relax with a great cigar so I can get things done! That my friends is called "The right attitude"! I suggest you do the same cuz it's better to work to live than live to work! The Nice Ash is fortunate to have Robert Allen Jr. host our open jam every Tuesday night at 8:00pm. Robert is a very talented blues musician who rocks the house. So if you are an aspiring or accomplished musician check it out and play with a real pro! http://www.robertallenjr.net/
For you whiskey club members don't forget that Tuesdays and Sundays give you discounts of $3 off of any whiskey over $10 or $5 off any whiskey over $20! Our newly introduced Dalmore Cigar Malt Reserve is only $15 for whiskey club members! Poker in our party room, the Ash Hole, has been a tradition for over 7 years at Nice Ash. We hold weekly free rolls (no buy-ins) on Mondays and Wednesdays. We run 10 week sessions where participants can win gift certificates ($50 on Monday for 1st, and $25, $15, & $10 gift certificates for 1st, 2nd & 3rd on Wednesdays) in addition to qualifying for our Tournament of Champions event after the 10 week session where you can win a quarter barrel party and a box of cigars!
Now you may wonder how good of poker can it be if its a free roll? Well we have quite a few players who have played in and cashed in WSOP, WSOP Circuit and WPT events! Five of our regular players went to Vegas last year to play in a WSOP event, we had one cash! Your poker skills will definitely be challenged. So what are you waiting for? Get your Ash in here and play some poker! You won't be disappointed! So I’m three days in on my blog and I get the directive from above to promote our newly arrived limited edition Dalmore Cigar Malt Reserve. We’ve only got two bottles in and it’s not known when we can get more.
Now I have my first moral dilemma of my blog. I really didn’t feel like writing about whiskey today. I was going to blog about golf. I know golf seems like it’s so far away with the cold and snow we have been dealing with this winter. But golf is something to look forward to and it’s really not that far away. We are likely to be able to golf sometime in April which is now within a month, so I though it’s a good time to start. And after all it is my blog, right? So I’ll segue not so gracefully into the Dalmore Cigar Malt issue. Unlike golf, it’s here now and it won’t last long, it is a limited edition and who knows when you’ll have another chance. So grab a cigar. I’ll suggest any Olive Serie V or any of the Ortegas, or possible a Berger & Argenti Entubar and enjoy a Dalmore Cigar Malt while you can. I’ve been married long enough to know that it’s better to make momma happy and blog about the Dalmore that to write about golf and pretend to maintain my independence and integrity. I’ll write about what I want to next time, unless of course…… It's a snowy March 1st. I know from talking with customers they are as tired of this endless winter as I am. The best way to combat the winter blues is to refuse to let it control you. Whether you decide to come out and enjoy a great stick and whiskey at the Ash, or see that movie you've been hearing about, or take advantage of the Art Crawl tonight in Downtown Waukesha, just do it. The end is in sight and you are a Wisconsinite for crying out loud! We are tough!
Nice Ash has an awesome band tonight; Barefoot 'n Bluejeans. So follow my lead. I plan on having a delicious craft beer tonight, I'll probably start out with a Crème Brulee from Southern Tier Brewery (New York) which is an awesome Imperial Milk Stout. It's like liquid dessert! On the smoking menu is an Oliva Serie V, a nice flavorful, powerhouse of a cigar. These are the times to savor; a good drink, a good smoke, listening to a talented live band and best of all, surrounded by the Nice Ash family. So what are you waiting for? Getcher Ash in here and tell mother nature what you think of her!!! |
Jeff BartaJeff's claim to fame is that he sleeps with the owner of the Nice Ash. Jeff will share his musings on cigars, whiskey, beer, poker and any other things that peak his interest. I hope you enjoy. Archives
